This story was a take on the Phoenix 'saga' of the X-Men. (Actually it was written/drawn because weirdo Byrne didn't like Phoenix.
On top of that, he wrote a climax that the chief editor could not accept and the finale had to be totally rewritten/redrawn overnight !)
